The Registrar of Contractors should improve consumer protection by identifying and disciplining problem contractors and by providing the public more complaint information through its Web site and phone center. The agency should also resolve a large deficit in the Residential Contractors’ Recovery Fund which provides financial assistance to consumers who suffered a loss due to the actions of a licensed residential contractor. Finally, the agency should stop providing take-home vehicles to its employees and should return 22 vehicles to the Department of Administration because they are not used efficiently.
