Arizona Department of Racing and Arizona Racing Commission

The Arizona Department of Racing and the Arizona Racing Commission together regulate pari-mutuel horse and dog racing and wagering in Arizona, although the Department provides direct day-to-day oversight of racing activities. The Department should improve its oversight of the computerized systems that process wagering data, which are known as totalisator systems, by adopting practices recommended by the Association of Racing Commissioners International (ARCI). The Department should also continue to align its animal drug testing practices with ARCI standards. The report also provides information on the impact of tax relief on racing regulation funding.
